[ingenting] is Swedish for nothing and was formed in Stockholm in 2003 by long time friends Mattias, Tobias, Andreas, Sebastian and Christopher.
The debut EP “ingenting är lätt” was released on Labrador in May 2004. With influences ranging from Velvet Underground and Pixies to Beach Boys and the Swedish 70’s, [ingenting] managed to sound like nothing else but themselves. The EP was followed by the album “Ingenting duger” in the fall of 2004.
The band produced their first album on their own. On the follow-up “Mycket väsen för ingenting” they decided to hand over some of the responsibility to someone else and the choice fell on Håkan Åkesson – more known as the artist Alf in Sweden. They had also gone from a five- to a six-piece with the brilliant percussionist Niklas Lundell. The album was equal parts Swedish countryside, urban night life and crushed dreams. A slightly schizophrenic and highly wonderful collection of songs. The song “Punkdrömmar” was Labrador’s first entry in the charts and reached number 16 on Tracks in 2006.
On their third album they teamed up with Jari Haapalianen, known for producing Ed Harcourt, Camera Obscura and The Concretes, and created a focused ten-track pop album. “Tomhet, idel tomhet” was released in September 2009 and is what [ingenting] do best – sincere, melodic pop music at its finest. The first single released from the album, “Hallelujah!” was the most played on Sweden’s largest radio station, SR P3, when released. The band was also the first ever to play on the stage of Dramaten (Sweden’s most famous and prestigious stage for theatre) in the beginning of January 2010.
